I’m in a situation where I need to create hundreds of the same document, each personalized with data for a different person from a spreadsheet. I have a base PDF file with fields for input, and while I can fill this out manually for each person, I’d love to automate the process.
Ideally, I want to feed a CSV file into a tool that will generate separate PDF documents for each person, naming the files with their names. My base text looks something like this (just a simplified example):
“Student [Name], with the ID number of [Student ID number], has participated in this event for hours.”
I don’t need a lot of extra features, but I’m not sure where to start looking for software or browser solutions since I haven’t done this kind of work before. I’d prefer a free option, but I’m open to paid software if it meets my needs perfectly.
If you don’t mind sharing that template form, I’ll see what I can do. I am developing an online PDF toolset and this looks like a useful addition, but I need a real example.
Honestly it’s just a PDF file with some text fields. I don’t think I can share the template as it has signatures that probably shouldn’t be shared. I did make an test file with LibreOffice Draw to try out some online solutions (that didn’t work) that I can share, though the text in it is in portuguese.
Alright, here’s what you need to do: go to gosignpdf .com/edit and upload your PDF template. Then, click on the TEMPLATE icon and select a CSV file that has headers matching the form fields in your PDF. After that, just click GENERATE, and you should be all set!
I noticed that the Preview app on Mac doesn’t always show the fields as filled in, and some other apps might not either. However, when I open the new files in Chrome and print them, everything looks good. I’m not sure what’s causing that issue, but I’ll look into it later.
Let me know if this works for you! And just a heads up, since everything happens in the browser, your personal information will stay safe.
