I just bought an HP Omen Transcend 14 (i9, 4070, 32GB RAM) and I’m wondering which pre-installed software I can safely remove. I’m worried that some of these might conflict with the games I want to play.
It comes with a bunch of HP software I probably won’t use, plus the Omen Gaming Hub, which I don’t really care for. I just want to know if it’s safe to remove these apps to avoid any issues with my games.
More info:
I recently got Ghost Recon: Wildlands and after 15 minutes on the splash screen, it finally loads but then gets stuck on the “Loading…” screen. I’ve tried all the fixes I found online with no luck, so I’m here for help.
If you want to get rid of pre-installed software, the best move is to reinstall Windows. You can’t be 100% sure they haven’t sneaked in any rootkits or other shady stuff, especially after incidents like Superfish. This is especially important if you bought the PC second-hand or from a small company.
To reinstall Windows, get a USB drive and flash a Windows ISO onto it. Then, boot from the USB drive through your firmware. Choose the partition where Windows is installed, and your old files will be moved to C:\Windows.old. Avoid reinstalling through Windows’ recovery mode, as it might be compromised if they’ve tampered with it.
