I need to get alerts whenever my street name shows up on websites that announce power or water supply interruptions. I’m not sure how reliable Google Alerts is since it can sometimes take a few days to index results.
I use Google Alerts, can be a couple of hours to a couple of days.
Useful for tracking where your email address is posted, etc, but probably not this use case
You might want to check out a paid tool that can monitor a specific area on your screen and recognize text with OCR (optical character recognition). If it detects certain text, it can perform any mouse or keyboard action you set up. The cool thing is that it works even if the text isn’t selectable, like when it’s embedded in images or bitmaps.
You might want to take a look at notify-me.rs. They offer a free plan if you just need to track a few sites!
Does it work if I enter the url of the home page of the website, and the word appears in a new article, which I don’t know which url will have?
No, you won’t find that kind of service for free
this might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but there’s a Chrome extension called “Pearls” that acts like a permanent Ctrl+F. You can turn it on or off for websites to highlight specific words. It won’t send you alerts, but it can still be pretty useful for spotting words when you visit a site!
