I’m trying to transfer a bunch of images from my phone to my computer, but it says it’ll take about 10 hours. The usual cut-and-paste method in Windows is kind of a hassle because it works in stages:
Copy all items from the old folder.
Paste them in the new folder.
Delete them from the old folder.
This means if something goes wrong during the transfer, I end up with some images in the new folder, some still in the old folder, and possibly some corrupted files.
What I really want is a program that can do the transfer like this:
Copy the image.
Paste it in the new folder.
Delete it from the old folder.
Then move on to the next image. This way, I can avoid losing files if anything gets interrupted.
Does anyone know of a program that does this? I’d prefer something free or at least a trial version since I’m not looking to pay for it.
You can use an SFTP program for this. Most of them will check if the modification date is older on the remote side or if the file size doesn’t match before transferring the file.
SFTP stands for Secure File Transfer Protocol. It encrypts data sent between a client and a server for added security. I recommend using FileZilla; it’s a solid option for transferring files.
What do you mean by “a large number of files”? With a basic free Gmail account, you get 15 GB on Google Drive. On the other hand, Dropbox offers 2 TB with their most basic plan and even has a 30-day trial. If you decide to pay for just one month, it’s only $12.
Right now, I’m using Dropbox with my iPhone, and the sync process through the app is super easy. It keeps track of how many photo and video files are on my phone and how many are left to upload.
