looking for an alternative to Windows Sandbox (I want to run a setup in a separate space), but I need admin rights for both Windows Sandbox and Sandboxie. Is there a way to find an alternative that doesn’t require admin access, or a way to download them without admin rights?
If it’s a work computer, you probably shouldn’t be installing random software…
Why do you need admin rights for Windows Sandbox? I use my PC daily as a non-admin, and Sandbox works fine for me without needing admin rights. I’m on Windows 10 Pro.
You have to turn it on in Windows Features, and to do that, you need admin rights.
You can set up a portable QEMU instance with a Linux or basic Windows image on a USB drive.
i have windows and also this is a no admin option yes???
When I run into this problem, I usually do one of three things,
- Capture the install on an admin computer and make it portable.
- Extract the files from the installer using UniExtract or similar tools.
- Find a portable version of the app—there are tons out there.
Sure! kindly elaborate number 1, it means you install the app on a computer where you have admin rights, then use tools to make that installation portable so you can run it on other computers without needing admin rights. I’ll definitely try UniExtract, and yeah, unfortunately, Sandboxie’s portable version also needs admin rights.
