Of the two that I stated, which one would you pick if you had to choose?
Definitely go with Macrium. True Image has gotten really slow at restoring data in recent years. Macrium gives you way more control and has a better scheduler that hasn’t let me down in about 4 years. I had issues with Acronis’ scheduler failing twice, and that’s when I switched to Macrium. When I need to restore, I want to be sure my backups are there and not find out that the schedule stopped working without any warning.
Acronis is terrible software. We had so many problems with it in our department that we stopped using it with 5 months left on our subscription. Their support was always condescending and combative, and they always seemed angry.
I’m not a huge fan of Macrium, but it does the job. We rarely have issues, and their support is professional and helpful.
For Windows we are doing amazing with Uranium Backup. Of the 2 you mention, I read better references of Macrium, than Acronis.
Macrium Reflect is great. I’ve done hundreds of restores without any issues, and it’s way easier to use than Acronis was.
Use Macrium… I used Acronis before, and it suddenly refused to restore an image, though the same image had been restored to the same partition just fine before. One day, it just decided that partition wasn’t good enough for restoring anymore, even though I hadn’t changed anything. All the restores were done at boot, not within Windows. I’ve posted about it before but can’t remember the exact details now. It’s been a while, but I ended up having to reinstall Windows from scratch and ditched Acronis right after.
The problem with Macrium is that their prices have gone way up recently. I’ve got a lifetime license for the current version, but who knows if the next version will end up costing a crazy amount in a subscription.
I don’t know about the pricing because I use the free version of Macrium (you can still download it from their website).
Yeah, but it’s no longer supported and won’t get any updates, not even for security issues.
