I’ve got a 5TB Seagate external drive that wasn’t even turning on before. I got a new enclosure for it, and now it powers up, but I’m getting an error saying, “This drive is not readable.” I’ve already tried the First Aid utility twice, but no luck. Is there any software I could try before I send it off to a data recovery service?
Spirited disk recovery from Gibson Research…
I’d suggest checking out irescuedata… If they can’t recover your data, you don’t get charged!
Can you check if it’s not the cables, power supply, or drive enclosure causing the issue? Like, if you put a different drive in the enclosure, does it work? Sorry for asking, just trying to cover all the bases…
thanks for the reply and yes I did try it with a new/different enclosure (with two computers), NADA
One more thing: older drives sometimes had a problem called “stiction” that kept them from spinning up. I’ve tried giving the drive a firm spin on a flat surface to get the platters moving a bit. You might want to give that a shot. I’ve also used Gibson software, but it needs a working drive to function. Good luck!
So, do you use a screwdriver or something to try to get the drive unstuck? Is there a video showing how to do this, or is it pretty straightforward? I’m up for trying almost anything before I move on to other options…
