Good, low-key alternative to EXPLORER.EXE

I’ve been using Windows for years, and I’m not planning to switch to Linux anytime soon. While it’s not a bad OS, some features are terrible, like Explorer and the Search function.

I don’t use the Search function anymore,I switched to Everything (a free software), and it works much better. Now I want to ditch the laggy mess that is Explorer. Even with 50+ files, it gets really slow, and I haven’t found a fix that works.

TLDR: Can anyone suggest a good, low-profile alternative to Windows 10 Explorer? I need something simple and fast that handles the basics—like file exploration, showing details (size, type, ID3v2 tags, etc.), sorting, copying, deleting, and changing to image view. No need for history or extra features that could slow it down or make it buggy.

I’ve been using FreeCommander for years and I highly recommend it.

…why you capitalizing EXPLORER??

So the reader can take a look and see what software I’m talking about.

FreeCommander has a lot of features, but it’s not the software that slows things down—it’s Windows, especially with copying, moving, and loading thumbnails.

Try using FreeCommander for file operations instead of Windows, and use the Queue feature to add each operation to a list.

I’m happy with Q -Dir. It has a portable version, up to 4 panes, tabs, and color schemes for the UI and file types.

thanks!! I’ll definitely check it out.
