I’ve been using Thunderbird for years, but it’s been terrible for most of that time. I keep getting emails from 1970, it freezes all the time when fetching mail, tags and accounts don’t sync across computers like they should, and all three of its search options are useless because they can’t find even the most obvious emails.
So, does anyone know a good email client? I need something that handles multiple accounts with combined folders, lets me tag and organize emails, and syncs across different devices. I’m willing to pay for it if necessary.
I really like eM Client! It’s definitely worth checking out.
It definitely looks straightforward and has a dark mode, which I like.
Do you know how it handles a portrait monitor? That’s been a major issue with most mail programs—they don’t do so well in a vertical layout.
If you’re dealing with a lot of emails, eM Client really struggles with threads and organizing. The only option is to turn on conversation view, but that seriously slows down the app. Otherwise, you have to search for each specific message manually. There’s no middle ground.
I’m sticking with eM Client for now because Microsoft started messing with Outlook functions without telling me, but I might switch back to Outlook since I rely a lot on tracking my conversation history across different topics.
I ran into the fact that it will only take 2 accounts unless you start paying them monthly for no good reason. I am heavily against rental software, so I will be giving this one a hard pass.
eM Client has no subscription plan. You buy a seat license, and it is for an unlimited number of email accounts. But extra seat (copy, license, PC etc. whatever you call it) cost additionally few bucks.
It actually popped up saying that 2 accounts is the limit and asked me to subscribe. So either something changed, or there’s some mix-up happening.
Charging per email account is odd, especially since adding an account doesn’t cost them anything. I’m just not sure I can trust that kind of pricing. It makes more sense to offer a basic version to try out and a fully unlocked pro version for a one-time fee, like most software developers do.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever used it on a vertical monitor, but I’ve tried it with various aspect ratios on horizontal monitors. I’d guess it should work fine on a vertical monitor. It really depends on your horizontal space though. You usually have three panels: Mailboxes, mail, and mail preview. You can resize all the panels and text sizes manually, I think.
2 account limit, and its a freaking subscription service.
Hard pass…
The 2-account limit is only for the free version. With a subscription, you get all the updates as they come out, but you can also buy a single license for a one-time fee. Each license covers up to 3 devices.
To put it politely; Both options do not align with what I want.
Thanks for trying though.
I’m also looking for a better email client than Outlook. It’s funny when people say Thunderbird is the best—maybe it was a decade ago, but not anymore.
Sad part is I don’t see anyone doing any better…
TB has the right idea, but it is rife with bugs and dysfunction. If only a competent team of devs could comb it over a bit, it could potentially be a perfect mailclient. I had confidence in them a decade ago, even donated some money to support their efforts, but im still waiting for them to fix shit thats been broken for 10 years now, and frankly im losing hope.
How hard can it be to make a competent email program, seriously.
