I have around 3000 music folders (mp3, flac etc) I accidentally mixed them all up using a new music player(media monkey) when loading them into the player. They used to be in folders arranged in alphabetical order by artist name or band. Now all the individual tracks are completely mixed up out of their folders & no matter what I do on media monkey I cannot get them back to their original state. I’m looking for software that can scan my hard drive and put the individual files back into their folders . I’m happy to pay for the software . I just want my folders to be back to the way they were…
AudioRanger is great for this! I upgraded to the Pro version since it was affordable, and it works really well for me. MusicBrainz Picard is also highly rated, but it does have a bit of a learning curve. It’s super powerful with all the plugins you can add, but it’s not the kind of software where you can just dump everything in and expect it to fix everything automatically.
Thanks I’ll give them a look
Wait, so did MediaMonkey move your files into new folders? Like, did it create a C:\Users\you\Music\MediaMonkey folder and move everything there? First off, with all that music, you really should have backed up all your folders to at least one external drive. If your music isn’t backed up somewhere else, you’re just asking for trouble.
AudioRanger should be able to help fix this, but make sure to back up your collection afterward. And honestly, you should consider ditching MediaMonkey—MusicBee is way better and won’t mess up your files
Yeh MM scanned my hard drive & moved every single file out of its own folder & jumbled them all up in the drive so every folder is now empty & every single track is jumbled up . I’m never going to use that again so I will try audio ranger & give music bee a try
Mediamonkey is what I’ve used for literally two decades to organize. The only way it puts files in a “bad” location with “bad” filenames is if you chose to organize them that way. Whether you hit enter without knowing what you were submitting or not, take some responsibility for what you did to your library rather than blame it on a tool you used.
That said, all of your files still have metadata unless you really did something awful. Press Ctrl+R in MediaMonkey to organize the music the way you want based on the tags. Since everything is jumbled, I’d sort it into //
Yeh I more than likely did it myself. It was first time using it. I’ll give what u said a go & see how I get on
I’ve been working on a new project that I think you might really like, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
It’s called HarmonyHaven. The app helps you manage and organize your music collection by scanning directories, getting rid of duplicates, and sorting files by genre and year. You can also search for songs by name and handle duplicates as you go. It’s designed to make managing big music libraries a lot easier, and I think your expertise could really help improve it.
I will have a look thanks
Safe to assume Genre & Year sorting is done with presence of Id3 tag, as in it it’s not using online resources to fill in the blanks? Just checking.
Also, md5 comparison or more in depth? Reason I ask is, I’ve came across some duplicate music where one has extra seconds of silence making it different in the eyes of basic checksum comparison.
